A girl on my tour told me her mother was having an electrician in the house after it had suffered damage from a flood. The electrician basically said, "lady, what's up with this house". The attic was a disaster of wiring that had been ripped out. She eventually had to have the house totally re-wired.
She went to the neighbors (always a good source of information) and was told the man that had built the house had drown on the lake it faced and his wife kept hearing him over the intercom, the TV, the stereo (surround sound, this house was wired for everything). She had gone up into the attic and had ripped everything she thought would stop it (right or wrong) but that failed to solve the problem. She sold the house and moved which solved the problem for her. The girls mother has complained of getting up in the morning and finding drawers and cabinet doors open all over the kitchen, that it feeling like someone's sitting next to her on the bed and hearing strange noises.
Obviously the dearly departed loved that house more than his wife because he stayed put.
